What is GIMP? GIMP, INKSCAPE and CAD, what are all of these ? First off GIMP or GNU Image Manipulation Program is a free open source raster graphics editor. Gimp works on all computer platforms, GNU/linux, Apple and Windows. It’s free to use, share and change its source code with others. Be it your a graphic designer, photographer, Illustrator or can’t afford premium software.GIMP provides all the tools for imagery manipulation. This will do what individuals need for raster imagery. What is Inkscape ? Inkscape, CAD Software and CNC is our topic today. Inkscape is a free and open source vector graphics illustrator software. It’s uses are editing or creating vector graphics illustrations, logos, charts, diagrams and much more. The primary vector file for Inkscape is Scaleable Vector Graphic or SVG. Many other formats are available for importing or exporting. It’s capabilities are closely to those of its paid counterparts, Adobe Illustrator, Coreldraw, Freehand, or Xara X. This article isn’t a step by step tutorial of Inkscape but rather how it helps in the world of CNC. Inkscapes ability to export several different vector formats is what caught my eye. Vcarve Pro Adding Dimensions

Why add dimensions ? In Vcarve Pro Adding  Dimensions to CAD programs will expand your shop’s capabilities. Not everybody owns cnc equipment or has access to it. A single run part will prove financially unacceptable with long run times. Adding dimensions will provide a 2 dimensional blueprint. Vcarve Pro CAD software has this capability. So why do this ? What’s to be gained ? How will this help you ? Job’s fabricated in my shop have milling times closely accounted for. Parts that are fabricated faster manually, a dimensional print is created. That message is information, direction, safety or Identification. For this example we’re identifying a business, specifically a woodworking shop. CNC Router Spoiler Board

CNC router spoiler board preparation In this article I’ll walk you through the steps of cnc router spoiler board preparation and replacement. The spoiler board is a protective covering over the factory installed one. The parts cut out will cut into the spoiler board. With the surface marred you will mill it flat for a uniform surface. If this surface isn’t uniform your spoiler board won’t be perfectly flat. This can cause discrepancies in the work piece. Uneven engraving depths being the most obvious in my opinion.
